Charlie (the putz) Rangel
A renewed ethics probe (ha ha the joke’s on you) of Rep. Charles B. Rangel of New York poses an embarrassing distraction for House Democrats, as the Ways and Means Committee that he leads will oversee House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plans for an $825 billion economic rescue and a tax increase on wealthy Americans.
The slow-moving investigation of Mr. Rangel’s home finances, unpaid taxes and dodgy fundraising is now in the hands of Rep. Zoe Lofgren, California Democrat and the new chairman of the Committee on Standards and Ethical Conduct. Washington Times
Apart from his incessant race-baiting, Representative Rangel’s crimes against America are made more egregious by being Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. A position which is currently very useful to him in stalling investigations into his conduct for numerous shady dealings.
- finances – from Roll Call
- “Rangel was buffeted last summer and fall by a series of stories about his finances, including reports that he accepted several rent-controlled apartments from a New York real estate developer, failed to report or pay taxes on about $75,000 in rental income from a Dominican Republic villa and made numerous omissions and other errors over the past decade on his financial disclosure forms.”
- taxes – from CREW
- “Among the dozen newly disclosed holdings revealed in the amended forms are a checking account at a federal credit union with a balance between $250,0000 and $500,000; three vacant lots in Glassboro, N.J., valued at a total of $1,000 to $15,000; and stock in PepsiCo worth between $15,000 and $50,000.” I’m at a loss for words. “Hypocrisy” for example, doesn’t even begin to describe the behavior of the Chairman of the House Ways and Means committee in dodging taxes. The man heads the committee which oversees the IRS.
fundraising – from The Washington Post
- “The panel should examine whether the House Ways and Means Committee chairman broke ethics rules by using House stationery to solicit corporate donations for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City College of New York, said Kevin Smith, a spokesman for House (R-Ohio), and Melanie Sloan, executive director for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Rangel (D-N.Y.), 78, drew criticism last year for obtaining a $1.9 million earmark to help start the center. He has met with potential donors such as Donald Trump and officials of insurance giant American International Group in an effort to help the college reach its $30 million goal. The center promotes diversity in public administration and will house Rangel’s official papers when he retires.” A very timely example of “pay to play”. First he pays for the place, at your expense, then he has it named after himself.
I take full responsibility for my own opinions, comments and slurs against asshats. I'm just another guy with just another opinion. Although, I may be turning into my father who my mother always said was 'the world's foremost authority."
