The Shiny Object
The “Shiny Object” is the thing that diverts your attention in favor of whatever you were focusing on to the Shiny Object and the result is that you are no longer focused on the previous thing.
Syria is a Shiny Object.
Prior to the attention on Syria, the media was finally beginning to focus on the litany of scandals in the Obama Administration. Now it’s all about Syria and no one is talking about the scandals any more.
Ask yourself. When was the last time you heard anything from mainstream media about the Administrations bungling and subsequent cover-up of the murder of Chris Stevens our Libyan Ambassador in Benghazi? The NSA snooping? The IRS targeting conservative groups? Obama’s preferential treatment of supporters when it comes to Obamacare? The lack of job growth? Gunwalking? Post-racism? Basically, all of his grandiose promises of “Hope and Change” have come to nothing and those are the “chickens coming home to roost.”
President Obama is not stupid and he is not politically inept. Those who believe otherwise are making a serious mistake. He is, however, power-mad and dishonest. And again, those who believe otherwise are making a serious mistake.
But most importantly, he is incompetent and surrounds himself with “yes men”.
Regarding Syria, he first established his “red line”. Someone in Syria crossed it. Rather than lose face over his stupid pronouncement he then announced that now they’re gonna get it. When most of the rest of the world immediately distanced themselves from an attack on Syria and the British Parliament flatly refused to go along with it, he took a walk around the Rose Garden with Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, and decided it would be a good idea to get Congressional approval – even though, he said, he didn’t need it. This was clearly a transparent ploy to enable him to blame Congress (read Republicans) for his own bungling if/when it failed, while allowing himself to take credit for being a “man of action” (sounds a little Putinesque doesn’t it?). He cannot make up his mind. Now there are reports that he’s thinking of calling the whole thing off. So much for “drawing a line in the sand” (what Obama actually meant when he said red line) for any American President for the next couple generations. Thanks to Obama, now we’re in the same category as Ahmadinejad, Saddam Hussein and every other tinpot dictator who throughout history have made hollow threats. A lot like “Hope and Change”, it sounds good until you realize he hasn’t the will, the experience, the support or the ability to carry out his poorly-thought-out ideas.
But, I digress. And that, my friends, is the entire point of the post – his ineptitude regarding Syria has caused a re-focus from all the past scandals to the current scandal. A shiny object indeed.
I take full responsibility for my own opinions, comments and slurs against asshats. I'm just another guy with just another opinion. Although, I may be turning into my father who my mother always said was 'the world's foremost authority."
